Yup, it could happen!! It has happened to me, I can thankfully say it has only happened twice in 40 years of extensive travel, but you must be prepared for it to happen. The first time was my small bag, ie. Laptop, money, passport and cards. Ahhh!!! The second time my whole rucksack was taken from a bus hold and I lost all my clothes and everything apart from what I was standing in. Both incidents were devastating, shocking and I cried and just broke down with the shock! B

Anything you need for more than one week is too much. I.e think about what you would wear in one week. In a hot country, two pairs of shorts, one pair of long trousers or a long skirt, maybe a dress and a few tees, no more than that, obviously not forgetting the knickers and bras. This will be repeated and sometimes boring but remember you can can always replace things as you travel. Personally, I love taking a couple of old tees and a pair of old shorts so I have the excu

For sure this helps but, as someone with ADHD and has the most appalling orientation skills, it doesn’t make life easy, but you can do it, I promise. Clearly, it helps if you can negotiate your way comfortably through web sites, Google maps and bus timetables but you can manage without such a skill. Ask for support from people around you, best way to make good local contact and friends. Don’t be afraid of getting lost, it can lead you to things you didn’t expect to see!

The answer is simply, it really helps and is a huge advantage but, let’s face it, we cannot learn every language going and, as having English as my first language, I have to say, I appreciate how lucky I am. Of course, a lot of people in may countries now study and learn English but not all and certainly not either in remote parts of countries and some of the most worthwhile places to explore. Duo Lingo is really good in advance; or Google Translate is so useful
